The Danish Refugee Council was founded in Denmark in 1956 and has since grown to become an international humanitarian organization with more than 7,000 staff and 8,000 volunteers. Based in Copenhagen (Denmark) and present in forty countries, the Danish Refugee Council is a non-profit-making, politically independent, non-governmental and non-denominational relief organization.

Background:

DRC has been operating in Greece since November 2015, providing support to the Greek Ministry of Migration Policy in ensuring dignified reception conditions for refugees and migrants arriving on Lesvos island. In March 2016, DRC expanded its operations in Athens, in response to the changing context and the build-up of refugee population on mainland Greece.

Purpose:

DRC Greece is looking to recruit a qualified, flexible and enthusiastic professional to work for its Office in Athens (Greece) as a CFS assistant. Under the supervision of the Integration Learning Center Team leader and with the technical guidance from Education Coordinator, the CFS assistant will be responsible for preparing and implementing recreational activities for children in DRC’s Integration Learning Centers.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Under the managerial supervision of Integration Learning Center Team Leader, the CFS assistant will develop and maintain good relations with the persons of concern while ensuring the child safeguarding and participation policies of DRC are strictly adhered to.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Define psychosocial activities to be implemented according to the children’s ages and situation and contribute to the development of a child friendly space curriculum;
  • Prepare and implement recreational activities for targeted children (large events or small groups);
  • Communicate with children in a protective manner ensuring the respect of their rights;
  • Create a positive and trustful atmosphere while interacting with children and parents encouraging them to express their needs and ensuring their feeling of safety;
  • Ensure that a child is not alone in the Integration Learning Center at all times;
  • Identify and provide materials required for activities preferred by children, in coordination with relevant departments and procurement procedures;

In addition to the above, the CFS assistant may be asked to carry out other duties requested by the Integration Learning Center Team leader.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience in education. Prior experience with non-Greek speaking children and adolescents is an asset.
  • University degree in early childhood development, education or related filed required.
  • Excellent verbal and written English and Greek skills are required.
  • Effective classroom management skills.
  • Previous working experience with local or international NGOs will be considered as a strong advantage.
  • High professional ethics.
  • Computer skills.

Terms & Conditions:

  • The contract will be under the Greek Labor Law (this is a national position)
  • All allowances will be provided to the employees (Christmas, Easter, Vacation bonus)
