Position Title: Child Protection/Social Workers

In Greece, IOM is focusing on responding to the Mediterranean migrant’s crisis, in support of the Greek Government and in cooperation with all other agencies involved. IOM currently implements interventions within the areas of emergency, preparedness and response, disaster risk reduction, livelihoods, healthcare and psychosocial assistance, assisted voluntary return of migrants, migration and development, resettlement and repatriation, family reunification, counter human trafficking, assistance to vulnerable migrants.

Context:

Reporting directly to the Project Coordinator the incumbent will have to provide general counselling and support to unaccompanied minors within the shelters; he/she will be assigned to and support the immediate referral of children in need. He/she will work closely with the project coordinator in line with the project.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Conducts a BIA assessment and identifies the needs and vulnerabilities of unaccompanied minors placed within the shelters;
  • Maps existing provisions in both the national system and the humanitarian system that are available and accessible to the residents of the shelters;
  • Assists children with all the necessary information in order to access relevant specialized care and/or administrative services. Prepares documentation; leaflets and outreach messaging in collaboration with interpreters;
  • Coordinates with the Shelter implementing partner an individual assistance plan, all actions regarding case management and support to the minors in line with his/her best interest. Coordinates with relevant authorities and civil society organizations and refers cases for further support;
  • Follows up in a case-management, on the referral of the identified individuals;
  • Provides ongoing general counselling to the concerned minors;
  • Assists in coordinating the provision of care to all minors in line with IOM and national and international standards;
  • Ensures the confidentiality of personal information;
  • Coordinates with the appropriate IOM Teams;
  • Undertakes other duties as assigned;
  • Undertakes duty travels as requested.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

  • University degree in Social Work, International Relations, Social Sciences or any other relevant field of study, preferably a bachelor degree or higher level from an accredited institution

Experience:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in psychosocial support, work in the migrant and refugees context or any other relevant experience; working with children will be considered as an asset.
  • Membership of the Association of Greek Social Workers would be an advantage;
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, personal commitment, efficiency and flexibility;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Good level of computer literacy;
  • Ability to work under difficult conditions.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and Greek is required.

Advantageous:

  • Previous experience and/or knowledge on human trafficking and smuggling and child protection is an advantage
  • Previous working experience with children is an advantage
  • Background working with refugees or migrants will be a distinct advantage

Other:

  • The position is subject to funding confirmation.
  • Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment and verification of residency, visa and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable.
