Driver / Child Protection team - Lesvos

JOB TITLE: Driver - Child Protection team
LOCATION: Lesvos island
FULLTIME/PARTIME: Full Time
DURATION: fixed term until December 15th 2020, starting date as soon as possible

Due to the emergency IRC will recruit qualified candidates filling the below criteria as they apply for the position.

Background: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries, the IRC aims to restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. In response to the arrival of refugees in Greece in 2015, the IRC has been offering SMS, WASH, Livelihoods and Protection services to children, women and people in need of mental health support. IRC Hellas currently has offices in Athens and on Lesvos, Chios and Samos.

SCOPE OF WORK:

In response to the recent fire and destruction of the Μoria RIC on Lesvos island, the IRC will start the implementation of a child protection program, aiming to assess the needs on the ground, identify vulnerable children and families and offer child protection case management and/or other child protection activities that will be identified as needs, following the needs assessment. For this reason, multidisciplinary mobile units will be set up. The Driver will provide safe transport services for the child protection (CP) program and support staff in the described major responsibilities mentioned below. Specifically, the driver should support and transport the CP staff and beneficiaries if needed, from formal or informal camps and sites to IRC offices other designated locations to predetermined points (hospital, partner’s or other actor’s safe spaces) and vice versa. S/he will adhere to all traffic and the IRC Hellas safety rules and follow the transport guidelines required by the IRC Hellas transport department. In addition to these duties the Driver manages the safety of assigned car and keeps proper records of car related documentation.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Transport the child protection team, using a designated van, to various areas of operation in Lesvos, official and unofficial camps or other locations;
  • Arrange the drop off and pick up of staff and coordinate among team members in order to establish the working schedule;
  • Transport cargo safely and as instructed, when needed. This might include collecting materials from project sites and suppliers;
  • Adhere to IRC policies and procedures, including but not limited to:
    • Understand and obey all traffic laws and regulations.
    • Oversee and ensure proper use of the car.
    • Accurately keep the car log sheets.
    • Performance of daily cars and weekly inspections according to IRC standards.
    • Organize regular service schedules for the car. Maintain service schedule files.
    • Applying the standard regulations and procedures in case of accident.
    • Ensure that a car is safe and road-worthy.
    • Organize cleaning of a car.
    • Collect and submit car related receipts to the Supply Chain Manager.
    • Ensure security measures for a car such as parking, storage of keys, fueling, etc.
    • Ensure that security incident reports are completed and filed (if related to a car).
    • Ensure that accident reports are completed and filed.
  • Assist the Supply Chain and Administration departments in procurement, inventory & asset management and maintenance of IRC premises as and when needed and in adherence to the relevant policies.
    • Commitment to working to serve humanitarian needs in line the values of integrity, service and accountability.
    • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to the IRC Hellas and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission in country of operation.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Works directly with:

  • The child protection team on the field and other IRC colleagues.
  • Supply Chain Manager.
  • Co-ordinates with the IRC Hellas program and operations staff in the office and accommodation locations.

Job Requirements:

  • Valid professional drivers’ license and extensive driving experience.
  • Knowledge of the road network in Lesvos.
  • Good spoken English.
  • Conscientious with an excellent sense of judgment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong sense of personal integrity.
  • Understanding of the needs of the refugee population and especially of vulnerable children;
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple tasks.
  • Candidates must feel comfortable working in challenging and often insecure environments.
  • Willingness and ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people and in multi-cultural teams.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and coordinate with project personnel.

WORK ENVIRNOMENT: Working schedule: Working hours (09.00 – 17.00, Monday to Friday), flexibility required to the emergency context
