The Danish Refugee Council was founded in Denmark in 1956 and has since grown to become an international humanitarian organization with more than 7,000 staff and 8,000 volunteers. Based in Copenhagen (Denmark) and present in forty countries, the Danish Refugee Council is a non-profit-making, politically independent, non-governmental and non-denominational relief organization.

Background:

DRC has been operating in Greece since November 2015, providing support to the Greek Ministry of Migration Policy in ensuring dignified reception conditions for refugees and migrants arriving on Lesvos island. In March 2016, DRC expanded its operations in Athens, in response to the changing context and the build-up of refugee population on mainland Greece.

Purpose:

DRC Greece is looking to recruit a qualified, flexible and enthusiastic professional to work for its Integration Learning Center in Athens as an Educator. Under the overall supervision of the Integration Learning Center Team Leader and with the technical guidance from Education Coordinator, the educator will be responsible for the implementation of the Education programme for youth and adults in Attica.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Under the managerial supervision of the Integration Learning Center Team Leader, the Educator will ensure that all education activities are of high quality, age appropriate and in line with youth and adults needs.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Implementation of non-formal education activities (Greek language) for youth (16-18) and adults, based on age, education background and individual needs.
  • Ensure that all non-formal education activities are of high quality, follow established curricula and address beneficiaries’ needs.
  • Ensure that relevant project data (attendance lists, lesson plans) is accurately collected and updated on a weekly and monthly basis, including breakdown of age and gender.
  • Evaluate objectively and regularly the beneficiaries’ attendance, performance and learning progress.
  • Support life-skills trainings either through direct instruction or collaboration with other educators;
  • Ensure that relevant project data (academic records, lesson plans etc.) are accurately collected and updated on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Contribute to the reinforcement of existing communication with persons of concern throughout DRC units and promoting the right to education.
  • Collaborate closely with cultural mediators, so as to develop culturally appropriate activities and deliver classes in the most efficient way

In addition to the above, the Educator may be asked to carry out other duties requested by the Integration Learning Center Team Leader.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least three years of experience in (adult) education and teaching. Prior teaching experience with non-Greek speaking youth and adults is an asset.
  • University degree in education or related filed required.
  • Excellent verbal and written English and Greek skills are required.
  • Effective classroom management skills.
  • Previous working experience with local or international NGOs will be considered as a strong advantage.
  • High professional ethics.
  • Strong Computer skills.

Terms & Conditions:

  • The contract will be under the Greek Labor Law (this is a national position)
  • All allowances will be provided to the employees (Christmas, Easter, Vacation bonus)
