Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries, the IRC aims to restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. In response to the arrival of refugees in Greece in 2015, the IRC has been offering SMS, WASH and Protection services. Refugee.Info is an innovative, first-of-its-kind project that harnesses social media to communicate with refugees and asylum-seekers, listen to their questions and provide information. Refugee.Info (RI) is the European instance of Signpost, a joint initiative launched in Greece by the International Rescue Committee and Mercy Corps in 2015 at the height of the European refugee crisis.
As part of the editorial team, the Field Editor – Digital Communities Officer is responsible for collecting information on issues relevant to asylum seekers/refugees across the country with the support of the Refugee.Info editorial team and partner organizations, produce content and maintain the Refugee.Info Facebook page and website with the support of editorial team.
Furthermore, the Field Editor – Digital Communities Officer will be conducting field visits in different areas of Greece as per the programmatic needs to expand the footprint of Refugee.Info in new communities, increase the visibility of the program, as well as map unidentified needs that target audience of Refugee.Info has.
The role’s duties include leading the efforts of Refugee.Info to access and collaborate various digital communities of asylum seekers/refugees to create synergies between involved parties in order to exchange content and understand the informational needs of the communities represented in each digital community better.
The position will have a dual reporting line reporting both to Refugee.Info Program Manager as well as the Editorial and Communications Manager of Refugee.Info. S/he is both a part of the IRC Hellas Program team and the Refugee.Info editorial team.
The ideal Field Editor – Digital Communities Officer is extremely proactive, detail-oriented and organized. S/he values accurate and error-free reporting. S/he is self-directed and reliably completes tasks. S/he is diplomatic and able to work with a range of peers to gather and verify information. S/he is social media and tech-savvy and quick to learn new tools. S/he has good understanding of the context that asylum seekers/refugees face in Greece. S/he is good in networking and is familiar with the humanitarian ecosystem in Greece. S/he has a strong commitment to teamwork and accountability and regularly seeks opportunities for collaboration and thrives in evolving and ambiguous environments. S/he has experience working in the field and conducting outreach/info sessions and focus group discussions (FGDs).
Knowledge and Experience:
The position can be based nationally.
Must be eligible to work in Greece or the European Union.
