Job Title: Field Editor – Information Collection Officer

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries, the IRC aims to restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. In response to the arrival of refugees in Greece in 2015, the IRC has been offering SMS, WASH and Protection services. Refugee.Info is an innovative, first-of-its-kind project that harnesses social media to communicate with refugees and asylum-seekers, listen to their questions and provide information. Refugee.Info (RI) is the European instance of Signpost, a joint initiative launched in Greece by the International Rescue Committee and Mercy Corps in 2015 at the height of the European refugee crisis.
As part of the editorial team, the Field Editor – Information Collection Officer is responsible for information collection, delivery and content creation on Lesvos following the latest incidents with Moria RIC being destroyed due to fires.
The role’s duties include collecting and assessing information needs in close coordination with the IRC programs on Lesvos, then researching, vetting and producing accurate and updated content to be published on the Refugee.Info suite of communication channels. As the information focal point for Lesvos, s/he is also responsible for maintaining close communication and collaboration with authorities in Lesvos as well as humanitarian actors.
The position will be line-managed by the Lesvos Area Manager and Refugee.Info Manager. S/he is both a part of the IRC Hellas Program team and the Refugee.Info editorial team. S/he will also have to conduct extensive outreach within the asylum seekers community/community leaders in Lesvos to ensure that information is reaching the end users of Refugee.Info too.
The ideal Refugee.Info the Field Editor – Information Collection Officer is extremely proactive, detail-oriented and organized. S/he values accurate and error-free reporting. S/he is self-directed and reliably completes tasks. S/he is diplomatic and able to work with a range of peers to gather and verify information. S/he is tech- and social media-savvy and quick to learn new tools. S/he has good understanding of the context in emergency settings. S/he is good in networking and is familiar with the humanitarian ecosystem in Greece and Lesvos in particular. S/he has a strong commitment to teamwork and accountability and regularly seeks opportunities for collaboration and thrives in evolving and ambiguous environments.
Knowledge and Experience:
The position is based in Lesvos. Local travel in formal and informal camps, sites, areas of IRC operation will be required.
Must be eligible to work in Greece or the European Union.
