Senior Child Friendly Space Facilitator - Lesvos

Job Position Title: Senior Child Friendly Space Facilitator
Department: Mental Health and Psychosocial support (MHPSS)
Duty Location: Field Position, Lesvos
Length of Initial Contract: November 2020, with possibility of extension

BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries, the IRC aims to restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure.

In response to the arrival of refugees in Greece since 2015 IRC has been offering a wide range of services including services on Mental Health. As of February 2018 IRC has been implementing Mental Health and Psycho Social Support services to the residents of Moria RIC, in Lesvos. IRC aims to expand the range of services to include basic child care for the patients of its Mental Health center.

The current component of MHPSS program aims at offering age and culturally appropriate activities for children, 2 to 10 years old, in order for them to feel safe, develop their social and emotional skills and learn.

SCOPE OF WORK:

Brief description of the position’s role within the Project(s):

The CFS (Child Friendly Space) Senior Facilitator will be responsible for planning and leadingguided activities for children enrolled in the CFS and undertake other administrative activities.The Senior CFS Facilitator will be supervising and supporting the Junior CFS Facilitator.

Major objectives:

  • Use child-centered approaches and provide a safe environment for playing, socializing and learning according to established schedules and routines;
  • Keep accurate and safe records of children/youth daily attendance

Who this position reports to:

The CFS Senior Facilitator will report to the MHPSS Senior Officer and/or the MHPSS Manager..Facilitators will also receive support and advice from the Child Protection Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend trainings organized by the IRC and/ or other organizations;
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct, Child Safeguarding Policy and IRC Way Standards for Professional Conduct;
  • Develop relevant curriculum for the needs of the CFS activities and space and revise accordingly to meet clients’ needs.
  • Take children’s attendance for each session, keep accurate, daily updated records and safely store them;
  • Provide timely reports on children’s participation to CFS activities to the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Manager
  • Lead games and activities and regularly revise them and adapt them to the needs of the children, in cooperation with the CFS Junior Facilitator and theMHPSS Officer.;
  • Help in setting schedules for daily/weekly activities for children;
  • Closely supervise children during group play and ensure they are safe while receiving services in the CFS;
  • Appropriately handle any crises or issues that arise in the CFS;
  • Support to create a positive and trustful atmosphere while interacting with children and parents, encouraging them to express their needs and ensuring their feeling of safety;
  • Observe children with special needs and ensure they are well integrated into the activities and if needed refer them to relevant services;
  • Answer questions from community members and parents about what activities are taking place in the CFS;
  • Identify and provide materials required for activities preferred by children, in coordination with relevant departments and procurement procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programs

Professional Standards

  • All CFS Facilitators are required to adhere tothe IRC Child Safeguarding Principles, THE IRC Way Standards for Professional Conductand the IRC country employment policies.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor/Diploma from accredited university in a related field (education, social work, psychology);
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in a similar position;
  • Experience in teaching children or implementing recreational activities with children;
  • Experience in implementing psychosocial support activities is an advantage;
  • Sensitivity to and awareness of the psychosocial and developmental needs of children;
  • Possession of technical skills such as painting, music e.tc. are considered as an asset;
  • Understanding of child safeguarding policies and of safe behaviors around and towards children;
  • Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to communicate, orally and in writing, in Greek and English. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge in the following languages: Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, Urdu, Kurdish;

WORK ENVIRNOMENT: office hours 9-5
