About ICMC
The International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) is an international non-governmental organization, whose mission is to protect and serve children as well as uprooted people, including refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced people, victims of human trafficking, and migrants - regardless of faith, race, ethnicity, or nationality.
ICMC started a partnership with UNICEF in Greece in order to deploy a highly qualified affiliated workforce to assist UNICEF Greece Country Office.
Scope of work
The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the organization does — in programme, in advocacy and in operations. The equity strategy, emphasizing the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families, translates this commitment to children’s rights into action.
UNICEF became operational in Greece in early 2016 as an outposted team from the Regional Office of Europe and Central Asia (ECARO) to respond to the significant influx of refugee and migrant children and their families at that time. Following several years of engagement with national stakeholders, UNICEF and the Government of Greece made a decision in January 2020 to formalize the agency’s presence in the country as a full-fledged Country Office. The office falls under the auspices of the UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia located in Geneva, which reports in turn to global headquarters in New York. Within the framework of a mandate for all children in Greece, UNICEF and Greece are now working to address the needs of all vulnerable, marginalized and left-behind children in the country.
UNICEF Greece is currently implementing the Country Programme for the period 2022-2026. The Country Programme (CP) consists of the following four components: i) Social policy and child-rights monitoring; ii) Quality and inclusive education for all; iii) Child Protection and iv) Youth empowerment. The CP marks a shift of UNICEF from humanitarian to development programming and is the first full-fledged programme of cooperation between UNICEF and the Government of Greece.
Under the framework of the CP, UNICEF responded to the Ministry of Health request to develop a comprehensive program to address the issue of child overweight and obesity in the country. The program promotes the concept of integrated services both at prevention and response level with a blend of technical support and of innovative methodologies, from SBC science/strategies to digital solutions. In this light, UNICEF signed a programmatic agreement with the Ministry of Health in order to implement the ‘National Action to combat Child Obesity’ financed under the Recovery and Resilience Fund, in close coordination with the General Secretariat of Public Health.
In addition, as part of its partnership with the Ministry of Health, UNICEF has designed a nation-wide innovative project, which will work towards an integrated model of services for the early detection of parental anxiety and/or depression, and of developmental disorders of children.
The incumbent will be working towards the monitoring and support to management of the relevant programmatic activities in combatting childhood obesity, promotion of family and child health, as well as other initiatives of such as Environmental Justice and Programming with Roma communities. He/she will be supervised by the UNICEF Programme Office – Head of Programme Support Unit, will work closely with the UNICEF Programme Team in Greece and other support staff; and will deliver needed tasks in close coordination with relevant stakeholders and partners.
