Position Title: Community Support and Engagement Assistants
Duty Station: Various Locations across Greece
Classification: Ungraded position, attractive remuneration package
Type of Appointment: Special short-term contract with possibility of extension

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. In Greece, IOM is focusing on responding to the Mediterranean migrant’s crisis, in support of the Greek Government and in cooperation with all other agencies involved. IOM currently implements interventions within the areas of emergency, preparedness and response, disaster risk reduction, livelihoods, healthcare and psychosocial assistance, assisted voluntary return of migrants, migration and development, resettlement and repatriation, family reunification, counter human trafficking, assistance to vulnerable migrants.

Context:

In the framework of the emergency situation regarding the migrants, asylum seekers and refugees across Greece, IOM Greece is establishing a pool of candidates interested to join the organisation.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

Under the overall supervision of the National SMS Coordinator, the incumbent is expected to:

  1. Develop and implement a community engagement strategy across IOM open accommodation centers, incorporating existing community representation mechanisms and endeavouring to promote community empowerment and self-reliance.
  2. Develop and implement a comprehensive CwC strategy, ensuring that: Accurate and coordinated information regarding services and other critical camp issues is timely disseminated to the refugee and migrant population; incorporating beneficiaries’ feedback.
  3. Ensure meaningful participation in community representation structures, including committees and other consultation mechanisms present in the camp.
  4. Establish a complaints and feedback mechanism (Suggestion box, Helpdesk) strengthening inter-agency referral and SOPs.
  5. Conduct information needs assessment and liaise with partners to address information gaps. Oversee and coordinate the organization of information campaigns with the objective of maximizing information dissemination among the site population.
  6. Conduct capacity building assessment and organize community engagement activities and events ensuring that Community Engagement activities target beneficiaries most in need of assistance and protection.
  7. Provide regular progress reports, gaps assessments, challenges or implementation delays and initiatives to the National SMS Coordinator.
  8. Ensure that IOM standards & principals are mainstreamed into the project implementation activities with communities.
  9. Identify and design relevant and needed meetings and trainings for field teams.
  10. Performs such other duties that may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited University in Social Science, Social Work or equivalent.

Experience

  • At least 2 years of related work experience in a humanitarian setting.
  • Experience in liaising with governmental and diplomatic authorities and stakeholders, working in international organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a multi-cultural setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft and prepare clear and concise formal correspondence and project reports.
  • Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing and presentations skills;
  • Proficient in a Microsoft Office environment and office software packages. Knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and keep deadlines.
  • Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles.

Languages

  • Proficiency in English, and Greek.

  1. The position is subject to funding confirmation.
