In Greece, IOM is focusing on responding to the Mediterranean migrant’s crisis, in support of the Greek Government and in cooperation with all other agencies involved. IOM currently implements interventions within the areas of emergency, preparedness and response, disaster risk reduction, livelihoods, healthcare and psychosocial assistance, assisted voluntary return of migrants, migration and development, resettlement and repatriation, family reunification, counter human trafficking, assistance to vulnerable migrants.

Context:

In the framework of the emergency situation regarding the migrants, asylum seekers and refugees across Greece, IOM Greece is establishing a pool of candidates interested to join the organization.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

Under the overall supervision of the Program Manager, and the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for the safe area located inside the Reception and Identification Centers (RICs) on the islands. The Field Coordinator (Safe Areas) will be working in close cooperation with the implementing partner deployed by IOM in the safe area and will maintain close communication with the local actors, stakeholders and authorities operating inside the RICs and on the island, in order to provide support and assistance to the unaccompanied minors accommodated in the safe areas within the RICs upon arrival on the island. In particular, she/he will:

  • Monitors the implementation of the project in line with the guidance from the IOM Athens management team;
  • Coordinates closely daily work with the team deployed by the implementing partner in the safe area;
  • Represents IOM safe area in the RIC, and in this capacity liaises with the stakeholders and authorities, NGOs present and/or active in the RIC;
  • Acts as general point of contact in all matters related to the safe area;
  • Prepare reports, briefs, background information, narratives and statistical analysis as necessary and required
  • Perform such other duties that may be assigned
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

  • University from an accredited academic institution, with two years of relevant working experience.

Experience:

  • Experience in child protection activities
  • Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing and presentations skills;
  • Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment
  • Proficient use of commonly used IT equipment and the appropriate software solutions

Languages:

Fluency in Greek and English is required.

Other:

  1. The position is subject to funding confirmation.
  2. Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment and verification of residency, visa and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable.
  3. Appointment will be subject to the provision of the relevant to the position degree(s), professional licenses and/or criminal record certificate.
